IMG_20160829_125701ISEES has taken delivery of Elsa Biochar cookstoves for promotion of clean cooking among households and small enterprises in Ghana. This is as part of efforts to promote clean cooking and reduce the use of firewood and charcoal. The Elsa stoves efficiently carbonizes agricultural waste including palm kernel shells, briquettes, saw dust pellets, corn cobs and wood waste which will have significant impact in improving energy use by small holder agroprocessing groups who will use their waste streams as fuels for clean cooking

The biochar gasifier stoves market development forms part of the “Scaling up of Gasifier stoves for small holder agro-processing women groups in Ghana” A project being undertaking with support from the ECOWAS Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, ECREEE’s and the West African Clean Cookstoves Alliance in Ghana.

ISEES hopes to promote the reduction in the usage of firewood and charcoal by exploring potentials of using sustainable fuels such as agricultural waste, especially palm kernel shells, saw dust pellets and other alternative fuels for household cooking

The stoves are manufactured by Asa Initiative an FNGO in the Central Region of Ghana and targeted at improving the lives of households and small enterprises in Ghana.

ISEES is developing new markets for the promotion of the Elsa stoves in Ghana and this pilot will enhance the development of sustainable markets in the Greater Accra, Northern, Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions of Ghana, where ISEES teams operate.
