ISEES participated in the inception meeting of the formation of the Ghana Agroecology Movement at Techiman to develop strategies, dialogue, and strengthen natural farming and food systems that help improve food sovereignty, climate mitigation, and healthy food for Ghana and Africa.
The workshop was organized by CIKOD and PFAG and brought together stakeholders and practitioners in the agroecology and natural farming sector passionate about promoting agroecology for sustainable development.
Discussions focused on the history of the movement, the challenges with the sector relating to unhealthy food being produced in Ghana, the overuse of synthetic agrochemicals, fertilizers, and farming systems that destroy soil fertility, and contribute to climate change.
The participants resolved to strengthen and promote systems that will help improve soil fertility, healthy food, agroforestry, and chemical-free farming systems.
They also aimed at influencing policy at the national and local government levels to ensure the adoption of agroecology as an approach to ensuring environmentally friendly food production systems
The agroecology movement was initiated, and committees were formed to work on critical documentation and strategies for the strengthening of the movement in Ghana.
